Front Elevation of Plan
  • Open AutoCAD and create a new drawing file. Set the appropriate units and scale for your drawing. Import or Create the Floor Plan (Optional):
  • If you already have a floor plan for the object or building you want to draw an elevation for, you can import it into AutoCAD using the “Insert” command.
Alternatively, you can create a simple floor plan directly in AutoCAD by using lines and shapes to outline the object’s footprint. Set Up the Viewport:
  • Before drawing the elevation, set up a new viewport for the elevation view. This step allows you to focus on a specific area for the elevation drawing. Switch to Paper Space:
  • Click on the “Layout” tab to switch to paper space, where you can create and arrange viewports for your drawings. Create the Elevation Viewport:
  • In paper space, use the “Viewport” or “MVIEW” command to create a new viewport. Resize and position the viewport to represent the area you want to show the elevation. Set the View Direction:
  • Double-click inside the viewport to enter model space. In model space, set the view direction to look at the vertical face you want to draw. Use the “DVIEW” command to control the view direction and angle. Draw the Elevation:
  • Using lines, polylines, arcs, and other AutoCAD drawing tools, start tracing the vertical features of the object you want to show in the elevation. Draw the walls, windows, doors, and any other prominent elements visible from the chosen view direction. Add Details and Dimensions:
  • Continue adding details to your elevation, such as decorative elements, surface patterns, and other features. Use the “Dimension” command to add dimensions that indicate the heights and distances of various elements.
  • To keep your drawing organized, use layers to group related objects. For example, you can have separate layers for walls, windows, doors, and dimensions. Review and Refine:
  • In paper space, you can add a title block and any necessary annotations or notes to complete your drawing. Save and Export:
  • Save your AutoCAD drawing in the appropriate format (.dwg) and plot or export it if needed for printing or sharing.
